Jo Coburn, one of the BBC's most senior presenters, has announced she is leaving the broadcaster after 28 years. She has presented the flagship daytime political programme Politics Live since its launch in 2018.
Coburn, who joined the BBC in 1997 as a Westminster correspondent, said: 'What a privilege to have been in the hot seat of the Daily Politics and then Politics Live covering the tumultuous events of the last decade or so. It's time to move on and hand over to someone else but I've loved it all.'
During her tenure, she covered eight general elections, anchored live coverage of six chancellors' budgets and hosted overnight by-election specials. She also appeared on Radio 4's Today programme and the BBC News Channel.
Executive editor of politics at the BBC, Hilary O'Neill, praised Coburn as a 'forensic interviewer' who 'shaped Politics Live into the programme it is today'. Director of News Content Richard Burgess thanked her for her 'immense contribution' over nearly 30 years.
Coburn will leave the BBC at the end of May. A new presenter will be announced in due course.
