Jimmy Kimmel has mocked Donald Trump by showing an image of the president in a nappy after Mr Trump stormed out of an interview with NBC News. The late-night host labelled the episode a “hissy fit” during his show on Monday.
The interview, recorded in a Wisconsin barn, saw host Kristen Welker press Mr Trump on his unsubstantiated claims that California elections are “crooked” and rife with Democratic “cheating”. When asked for evidence, the president told Ms Welker “you're either crooked or you're stupid” before tearing off his microphone and walking off set.
Kimmel played a clip of the confrontation and joked: “This is why he mostly dated women that don't speak English.” He added: “Either way, their talk ended in a full blown Trumper tantrum.” The comedian then aired a modified version of the clip, depicting Mr Trump without trousers and wearing a soiled nappy as he stood and walked away.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle dismissed Kimmel's comments, saying: “Nobody in their right mind cares what seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel thinks.” Shortly after the interview, Mr Trump told supporters he had become upset because it was raining and he was dealing with “NBC fake news”.
Kimmel and Trump have a long history of trading barbs. In April, Trump condemned a Kimmel joke about First Lady Melania Trump as a “despicable call to violence”. In September, Kimmel's show was briefly suspended by ABC News after comments about the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, before resuming following backlash.
