Joe Hart believes Matthias Jaissle's impact at Newcastle United in under four weeks will heighten frustration among Tottenham fans after their poor start to the season. The former Spurs and England goalkeeper says Jaissle's quick success undermines Roberto De Zerbi's claim that his Tottenham side need more time to build cohesion.
Spurs' summer spend and slow start
Tottenham spent around £380 million in the summer transfer window to avoid a third consecutive 17th-place Premier League finish. De Zerbi's side paid £100 million for Sandro Tonali from Newcastle and also signed Omar Marmoush and Savio from Manchester City, Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, Andy Robertson from Liverpool, Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton, and Marco Senesi from Bournemouth.
De Zerbi joined Spurs late last season and secured survival with a final-day win over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Despite ending well and spending heavily, Tottenham lost their first two games of the season and were second best on Saturday as Newcastle won 2-0 in North London.
Jaissle's unbeaten start at Newcastle
Jaissle succeeded Eddie Howe as Newcastle head coach earlier this month and has dealt with the sales of Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, and Kieran Trippier. Seven new signings, all aged 24 or under, have arrived. Despite predictions of struggle, Jaissle is unbeaten in his first three competitive matches.
On Saturday, his aggressive, vertical style was evident as Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa, both struggling last season, scored against Spurs. Hart told BBC's Match of the Day: "I think when you see what Jaissle has done at Newcastle in a lot less time that is where the frustration is going to come."
Hart compares experiences
Hart noted that while understanding takes time, Newcastle's flowing play showed it can be achieved quickly. He added: "But to see Newcastle flowing like they did today, with everyone playing on the same tune and getting the best out of players who were there previously, there is going to be continued frustration and the Premier League waits for no-one."
Hart drew on his own experience at Celtic under Ange Postecoglou, saying: "I did it at Celtic and there was a huge turnover under Ange and it took us a real long time to get going. But when we did get going, it was special, so obviously Tottenham Hotspur are going to hope that is the same for them."
