Vice President JD Vance is set to release a new book in June, intensifying speculation that he is preparing for a potential 2028 Republican presidential bid. The memoir, titled Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, will be published by HarperCollins on 16 June.
HarperCollins, which also released Vance's 2016 bestseller Hillbilly Elegy, announced the 304-page book on Tuesday. In a statement, Vance said the book explores his journey from losing his Christian faith to rediscovering it. 'The story of how I regained my faith, of course, only happened because I had lost it to begin with,' he wrote.
Presidential hopefuls often release books before launching campaigns, and Vance's announcement is likely to fuel speculation about his 2028 ambitions. The vice president has said he is not focused on a run and would wait until after the 2026 midterm elections to decide.
Vance, 41, converted to Catholicism in 2019 after moving from Christianity to atheism. He credits his faith with providing purpose beyond his education at Yale University and work in finance. The book includes material on his time in politics, making him the first vice president in recent memory to publish a book while in office.
Vance was elected to the Senate from Ohio in 2022 and became Donald Trump's running mate in 2024, becoming the youngest vice president since Richard Nixon. His wife, Usha Vance, recently launched a children's podcast. The couple has three children and is expecting a fourth in July.
