JD Vance to Discuss 2028 Presidential Run After Midterms

US Vice-President JD Vance has stated that he will discuss a potential 2028 presidential run with his wife after the 2026 midterm elections. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning promoting his memoir, Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, Vance said he tries not to make decisions until he 'absolutely must'.

Vance expressed confidence that President Donald Trump would support his decision, saying, 'I have no doubt that the president of the United States is going to be very supportive of anything that I ultimately decide to do.' He noted that Trump frequently brings up the topic, though Vance does not initiate such discussions.

When asked if Trump had explicitly asked him to seek the Republican nomination, Vance said the president was 'not positive or negative' but engages in general conversations about future success. The Washington Post reported that Vance may delay his decision due to the birth of his fourth child in July.

Vance is considered a top contender for the GOP nomination, with potential rivals including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Donald Trump Jr., who has expressed interest in higher office.
