Jamie Redknapp has revealed that he and his wife, Swedish model Frida Andersson, have decided not to have any more children, bringing their combined family total to seven. The Sky Sports pundit, who comes from a famous footballing dynasty, opened up about the realities of blended family life in a recent interview.
A Footballing Dynasty
Jamie, who captained both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur during his successful club career, is the son of former West Ham star and top-flight manager Harry Redknapp. He is also a cousin to Frank Lampard, who has his own football lineage. Jamie's son Beau, aged 17, plays for Brentford, continuing the family tradition. Beau is Jamie's son with his ex-wife, singer Louise Redknapp.
Blended Family Dynamics
In 2021, Jamie married Frida Andersson, and they share a younger son, Raphael. Jamie also has a 21-year-old son, Charley, with his ex-wife, while Frida has four children from her previous marriage to American hedge fund tycoon Jonathon Lourie: one girl and three boys. Reflecting on the complexities, Jamie admitted that blended families "are never straightforward."
Speaking to The Times, he said: "Of course, there are going to be moments when it’s a little bit… you know… something gets said, but that’s absolutely natural and they all get on well. You have to give a lot of leeway for that and make sure that you’re understanding other people’s feelings."
No More Children
Jamie confirmed that the couple will not have any more children. He explained: "We won’t have any more children now. We had Rapha because we wanted to have our own little man — or girl, I wouldn’t have minded either way — and that’s been absolutely beautiful."
Step-parenting Challenges
Frida has become stepmother to Jamie's boys Beau and Charley, but it hasn't always been easy. Recalling the moment he told his eldest son about Frida's pregnancy, Jamie said on The Romesh Ranganathan Show: "It didn't go down that well with Charley, I've got to be honest. I went to pick him up at school and tell him Frida was pregnant [and] it went down like a lead balloon, if I'm honest." He added: "I got it, I totally understood it because his world had been turned upside down - you're married, everything feels straightforward, and then you meet someone else and you get married again."
Louise Redknapp's New Relationship
Louise Redknapp, mother of Jamie's sons Beau and Charley, remained single for quite some time but went public with her new boyfriend, Drew Michaels, in 2023. The mother-of-two frequently shares updates about their relationship on social media.
