The Indiana Hoosiers, after becoming the first team in over 130 years to achieve a perfect 16-0 season, will be honoured with a visit to the White House to celebrate their maiden national championship victory, according to multiple reports.
White House Visit Details
The Hoosiers are scheduled to make the visit on Monday, May 11, nearly four months after their title triumph over the Miami Hurricanes. This tradition, extended to championship-winning teams for decades, will be bestowed upon Indiana for the first time in their history.
Remarkable Season
Indiana's extraordinary turnaround under head coach Curt Cignetti saw them go undefeated at 16-0 and clinch the title with a 27-21 victory over Miami. A stellar performance from quarterback Fernando Mendoza propelled them to glory.
Mendoza, who was the driving force behind the Hoosiers' success, reaped the rewards of his outstanding season by being selected first overall by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2026 NFL Draft. In addition, wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr was chosen in the first round with the 30th overall pick by the New York Jets.
NFL Draft Success
The Hoosiers set a program record with eight players selected in last week's draft. Alongside Mendoza and Cooper, the drafted players included D'Angelo Ponds (2nd round, Jets), Kaelon Black (3rd round, 49ers), Elijah Sarratt (4th round, Ravens), Riley Nowakowski (5th round, Steelers), Pat Coogan (6th round, Titans), and Aiden Fisher (7th round, Texans).
Indiana became only the second 16-0 national champion in college football history, joining Yale's 1894 championship-winning team.
