Shocking footage has emerged of a massive brawl involving up to 40 people at a popular drinking spot in Newcastle. The incident occurred on Friday evening on the Tyne bank, between the Ouseburn's Free Trade and Tyne Bar.
Onlookers watched in disbelief as the melee spilled down the hill towards a fence. The video shows a number of people scrapping before a missile is thrown into the crowd. A 29-year-old man was arrested and has been released under investigation, Northumbria Police confirmed.
A man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with facial injuries. The Tyne Bar was forced to close for the evening, posting a sign citing 'unforeseen circumstances'. A 6ft wooden fence has since been erected to block access to the grassed site, which was previously only partially fenced.
A petition has been launched, garnering over 1,600 signatures, calling for the area to be reopened. Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting log number 1066 of 26/05/17.
