Ex-Parliament Staffer Arrested Under Hacking Laws

Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle has announced that a former employee of the Houses of Parliament was arrested last week under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. The arrest was disclosed to MPs at the start of business on Monday.

Sir Lindsay stated that he had been informed by police about the arrest, which relates to unauthorised access to computer material, intent to commit further offences, and unauthorised modification of computer material. He emphasised that the police investigation is ongoing.

The Speaker declined to discuss details on the floor of the House, citing the ongoing criminal investigation. He said he would update members when more information becomes available.
