Harry Potter star Emma Watson has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding in Oxford. The 35-year-old actress, who played Hermione Granger in the film franchise, drove 38mph in a 30mph zone on 31 July 2024.
At High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, Watson was ordered to pay a total of £1,044. The court heard she already had nine penalty points on her licence before the incident. Accumulating 12 or more points within three years typically results in a six-month driving ban.
Watson rose to fame in the Harry Potter series (2001–2011) and later starred in the live-action Beauty and the Beast and Greta Gerwig's Little Women. She now studies at the University of Oxford, having started a Master's in creative writing in September 2023 before switching to a DPhil.
Separately, Zoe Wanamaker, who appeared alongside Watson in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as Madam Hooch, was also banned from driving for six months at the same court on Wednesday. The 76-year-old was caught speeding on 7 August 2024 on the M4 in Newbury, Berkshire, driving her blue Volvo at 46mph in a 40mph limit.
Wanamaker, who also had nine points on her licence, was fined £1,044 and handed a six-month ban.
