David Cameron treated Chinese President Xi Jinping to some traditional British hospitality during his state visit, taking him to a local pub for a pint of ale and fish and chips. The pair visited The Plough in Cadsden, a few minutes from Cameron's countryside residence at Chequers.
The Chinese president expressed a desire to try traditional British ale, and the prime minister obliged. They enjoyed a basket of mini fish and chips with homemade tartare sauce, washed down with a pint of Greene King IPA, while watched by regulars.
The Plough is a favourite of Cameron's, who famously once left his daughter Nancy there after an afternoon out. During the 20-minute visit, he joked with locals: 'I've been in here a few times. I'm not leaving my family here today.'
Earlier, the leaders met at Chequers, where Cameron took the president for a walk around the grounds before an hour-long meeting focused on international affairs and China's role on the world stage. A formal dinner with their wives followed the pub visit.
