The Daily Mail is expanding its push into video journalism with the launch of The Backstory, a new interactive news program premiering tonight at 6 p.m. ET in partnership with live video platform 2WAY.
Politics-Focused Show Features Top Journalists
The politically driven show will feature Daily Mail journalists breaking down the week's biggest headlines alongside Mark Halperin, combining sharp analysis and insider reporting with real-time questions and reactions from viewers as the conversation unfolds.
The Backstory builds on the momentum of earlier collaborations between the Daily Mail and 2WAY, part of a broader effort to create immersive programming that gives audiences unprecedented access to both the stories shaping the news cycle and the journalists covering them.
Turning Viewers into Active Participants
At a time when audiences are demanding more direct engagement with news coverage, the new show will turn viewers from passive spectators into active participants, creating a nightly destination where breaking news, political debate, and audience interaction converge in real time.
'Following the incredible response to our State of the Union special, we're seeing a real appetite for more immersive, participatory experiences,' said Joe Ruffolo, CEO of 2WAY. 'Now we're expanding that Daily Mail partnership momentum by applying our platform to new formats including, for the first time, a game show experience.'

In partnership with 2WAY, the Daily Mail is also expanding its programming slate with the launch of two additional interactive shows: The Crime Desk Live and special programming focused on the Royals.
New Interactive Shows: Crime Desk and Royals
The Crime Desk Live will deliver a one-hour deep dive into the biggest criminal investigations and courtroom stories dominating headlines, led by the Daily Mail's team of true crime journalists and reporters. The royal coverage will offer a live one-hour program focused on major moments involving the Royal Family and their cultural and political intersections with the United States, featuring analysis and reporting from leading Daily Mail royal correspondents.
'This is about meeting our audience where their interest already is, and taking them deeper,' said Katie Davies, the Daily Mail US Editor-in-Chief. 'We know the stories our readers can't get enough of, from politics to true crime to the royals, and this partnership with 2WAY gives us a new way to bring them closer to the reporting and the journalists behind it.'
