Casemiro Backs Carrick for Permanent Man Utd Role
Casemiro Backs Carrick for Permanent Man Utd Role

Casemiro has voiced his strong support for Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick, insisting the club faces a 'big problem' if they fail to appoint him permanently. The Brazilian midfielder, who is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer, believes Carrick has proven himself worthy of the role after guiding the team back to the Champions League.

Carrick's Impact at Manchester United

Since taking over as interim manager, Carrick has transformed United's fortunes, leading them to a top-four finish and qualification for Europe's elite competition after a season without European football. His tenure has included impressive victories over Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea. Notably, he boasts the highest win percentage (71.4%) of any manager since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.

Several players have publicly endorsed Carrick, and Casemiro is the latest to do so. Speaking about Carrick's future, Casemiro said: "The club has a big problem in that aspect, right? Because we know he came in as an interim manager, he came, he delivered, he had difficult games. He did very well, he's doing very well, he's a guy who knows the club, he knows what Manchester United is all about. He has class, he has the attitude of Manchester United, he's an incredible person, and he deserves it, he deserves to stay."

Casemiro's Personal Endorsement

Casemiro added: "If I were to give my opinion, he's a guy who deserves it. Knowing him day to day, you already say, 'this guy deserves it'. He has class, he lives and breathes the club, he knows what the club is all about. So, for me, this guy has to stay at the club for more years because he deserves it, he really deserves the job."

Carrick's Response

When asked about his future during a pre-match press conference, Carrick remained focused on the present: "We've got eyes on finishing the season strongly as well. So, I understand the question, I understand the timing of it, but from my point of view, right at this stage, it's just putting the boys in a place to finish the season strongly, and then, as I've said all along, and I'm calm about it. It'll get sorted out when it's going to get sorted out, some of it's out of my hands, so we'll see what happens."

Carrick emphasised that he has always made decisions for the long term, regardless of his interim status: "I think I've said from the start, though, that I've never approached a day here in terms of any short-term decisions. Whether that's different from the outlook of others, I don't know, but from mine and certainly the staff, I think we've definitely made decisions for the longer term for the group and individually as players and how we treat them and try to help develop them, the squad."

The club's hierarchy will now decide whether to offer Carrick the permanent role, with strong backing from key players like Casemiro.
