The sister of Steven Clark, who disappeared 30 years ago, has vowed to continue searching for him, saying the family still hopes he will 'walk through the door one day'. Steven was 23 when he vanished after entering public toilets on a seafront in Saltburn, Teesside, following a walk with his mother on December 28, 1992.
Despite numerous appeals at the time, the case took a dramatic turn in 2020 when police launched a murder investigation after a cold case review. Steven's parents, Doris and Charles, were arrested on suspicion of murder but later released without charge. The family has criticised the police for doing 'very little to support' them initially.
Speaking about the ordeal, Steven's sister Victoria described it as a 'living nightmare'. She said the family did not celebrate Christmas for eight years after his disappearance. 'The constant, painful limbo of not knowing is a horrible thing to live with,' she added.
Victoria is working with the charity Missing People to re-launch the search. She described Steven as a keen swimmer, musician, and Arsenal fan with an 'infectious laugh'. The family moved back to the UK from South Africa in 1990 to give Steven a better life.
Police have released a Q&A providing further insight into the investigation. Victoria urged anyone with information to come forward, saying even small details could prove important. 'Someone, somewhere, must know something,' she said.
