A BBC thriller hailed as 'one of the best shows ever' has landed on Netflix. The Little Drummer Girl, originally premiering in 2018, is adapted from John le Carré's best-selling novel of the same name.

Set in the late 1970s, the six-episode series follows English actress Charlie, played by Academy Award nominee Florence Pugh, who is recruited by Israeli intelligence to infiltrate a suspected terrorist group. The mission becomes increasingly dangerous as she forms complicated relationships with both sides.

Pugh leads a star-studded cast including Primetime Emmy Award winner Alexander Skarsgård and two-time Oscar nominee Michael Shannon. The show is directed by celebrated South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook.

Despite feeling overlooked by audiences, the series earned a rare 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One critic described it as 'among the best espionage TV dramas in recent memory,' while fans praised the blend of suspense, romance and drama.

Some viewers have compared it favourably to The Night Manager, with one Reddit user calling it 'one of the best spy thrillers I've ever seen.' The Little Drummer Girl is streaming now on Netflix and available for free on BBC iPlayer.
