Abbie Chatfield has become the latest media personality to take over hosting duties on KIIS FM Breakfast, following the departure of Kyle Sandilands and Jackie 'O' Henderson last month.
Chatfield will join the KIIS Breakfast team from Monday 27 April to Friday 1 May, on both KIIS 1065 and KIIS 1011. Her week-long stint has been widely seen as an unofficial audition for a permanent role, with other temporary hosts including Mike E and Intern Pete having already filled the slot.
“I’m so excited to jump in with the KIIS Breakfast crew for the week,” Chatfield said. “Breakfast radio is fast, fun, and full-on in the best way, so I think I’ll be a perfect fit! I can’t wait to get on air.”
The announcement came a day after the second radio ratings for the year were released. KIIS FM’s breakfast audience share eased to 11.7%, down from 12.7% in the previous survey – the first ratings read since Kyle and Jackie O’s exit. The modest drop suggests listeners have largely remained with the station during the transition, rather than switching off in large numbers.
Meanwhile, Kyle Sandilands’ legal case against his former employer began today in the Federal Court. He is suing ARN and its subsidiary, the Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation, alleging his contract was terminated without valid grounds and in breach of Australian Consumer Law. The termination followed an on-air dispute with co-host Jackie 'O' Henderson, with Sandilands arguing there was no act of serious misconduct or breach of contract.
