The son of a renowned 90s pop star has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after a vicious assault in Westminster left his victim with life-changing injuries.
Lennon Wyer, 23, whose father was part of a chart-topping band in the 1990s, launched an unprovoked attack on a man outside a central London bar last November. The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, suffered multiple fractures and required extensive surgery.
Shocking Details of the Attack
According to court documents, Wyer punched the victim to the ground before repeatedly kicking him in the head. CCTV footage showed the brutal assault lasting nearly two minutes before bystanders intervened.
Judge Sarah Munro QC described the attack as 'sustained and particularly vicious', noting that Wyer showed 'no remorse' during the trial at Southwark Crown Court.
Celebrity Connection
Wyer's father, who rose to fame with several UK number one hits in the 1990s, was not present in court for sentencing. A family spokesperson stated they were 'deeply shocked and saddened' by the events.
The case has drawn significant media attention due to the celebrity connection, with many questioning how the privileged upbringing of the defendant could lead to such violent behaviour.
Impact on the Victim
The victim, a 32-year-old finance worker, continues to suffer from the effects of the attack. In a victim impact statement read to the court, he described how the assault has left him with 'permanent physical and psychological scars'.
Detective Inspector Mark Roper, who led the investigation, praised the victim's courage while condemning Wyer's actions as 'cowardly and completely unnecessary'.
Wyer was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent and will serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
