Will Mellor has hit back at a racist troll on social media after being branded an 'absolute traitor' for starring in a holiday advert with his family. The Strictly Come Dancing star recently appeared in a promotional campaign for Solmar Villas alongside his wife Michelle McSween, their daughter Renee, 17, and son Jayden, 21.
The actor was forced to respond to a vile comment on X, where a user wrote: 'I've just seen your holiday advert. You absolute TRAITOR!' Will replied: 'Why am I a traitor?!?' The user then posted: 'I'll give you a clue. OK. Will. British TV likes to give out the idea that mixed relationships are the norm. They're not. They exist of course yes but the norm though? No. You fell into it though. Personally, I would have refused to help…'
A furious Will retorted: 'It's my f***ing wife and children in the Advert!!!?!?? What are you talking about!???' He then took to Instagram to share the exchange, writing: 'I try not to respond to a lot of this I get on social media but is this just 1 of many messages I get! How sad is it that we are in 2026 and we are still having to deal with this S**T!!!'
Solmar Villas showed their support in the comments, stating: 'So proud to have you and your amazing family in our ad, Will.' Others expressed outrage, including Fleur East, who wrote: 'So stupid!!! And outrageous!! It's mad that this still goes on. When will it end?'
Will and Michelle first met in 1999 while starring together in the stage musical Oh, What a Night and have been together ever since. The incident comes after Will revealed he made a 'mistake' inviting his wife to a strip show for his series Will & Ralf Should Know Better, co-starring Ralf Little. In an episode, the pair stripped off with the Dreamboys. Will confessed: 'I didn't know they got their willies out! I thought it was like a Magic Mike... I invited my wife!' Despite nerves, he said he loved the experience.
Will also competed on Strictly in 2022, explaining: 'They asked me all the time... I lost my dad and my brain just went 'what are you doing, I'm saying no to things because of other people's opinions'.' He added that it was his mum's favourite show and she had a tough time after losing his father.
