Dylan Carter, a 24-year-old country singer who appeared on Season 24 of NBC's The Voice in 2023, has died in a car crash in South Carolina. The accident occurred on Saturday, 25 April, in Colleton County.
Law enforcement reported that Carter's 2026 Tesla sedan was travelling southbound on U.S. Route 21 just after 11 p.m. when it veered off the road, struck a pole and a fence, and then rolled over. The Colleton County coroner confirmed that Carter was the driver and sole occupant, and was wearing a seatbelt. He was taken to hospital but died from blunt-force injuries sustained in the crash, which was ruled accidental.
Carter co-founded The Local Voice, a South Carolina non-profit organisation that supports women battling cancer. The group announced his death on Facebook, describing him as “the heart of what we do” and noting his kindness and smile. Carter had impressed The Voice judges with his audition of Whitney Houston's “I Look to You” and chose Reba McEntire as his coach, dedicating the performance to his late mother.
In addition to his music career, Carter owned Sunny Days RV & Campground and worked as a realtor. He had been scheduled to perform a concert in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, on 27 April, and the town's mayor, Thomas Hamilton Jr., paid tribute on Facebook, calling Carter “much more to our family than an entertainer” and saying his absence will be deeply felt.
