Rebekah Vardy Says Hell Will Freeze Over Before Apologising to Coleen Rooney
Vardy: Hell Will Freeze Over Before Apology to Rooney

Rebekah Vardy has finally broken her silence on the 'Wagatha Christie' saga, declaring that she will never apologise to Coleen Rooney, seven years after being accused of leaking stories to the tabloids. The 44-year-old, who lost her libel case against Rooney in July 2022, stated that 'hell will freeze over' before she says sorry for something she claims she did not do.

Vardy's Defiant Stance

Speaking ahead of a new reality show with her husband Jamie, Vardy expressed frustration at being constantly asked about the legal battle. 'I'm never, ever, going to apologise for something I didn't do... Hell will freeze over before I do that,' she told The Telegraph. 'It's over, it's done, I'm not going to carry on living in the past. I'm so f***ing bored of it.'

Despite maintaining her innocence, Vardy said she has found 'peace' and no longer holds a grudge against Rooney. However, she remains adamant that the judge's 2022 ruling was wrong. 'I'm living with the judgment the judge made but, still to this day, I believe she was wrong,' she added.

Jamie Vardy Defends His Wife

Jamie Vardy also weighed in, defending his wife against public perception. 'People thinking that Bex was a villain, it's just a load of s***, but everyone close to her knows, that's all she needs,' he said. He described the ordeal as 'really tough' to witness, adding, 'Becky's a strong woman. If she wasn't, it would definitely have broken her.'

The Wagatha Christie Saga

The public feud began in 2019 when Coleen Rooney, wife of footballer Wayne Rooney, posted on Instagram that she had set up a sting operation to identify who was leaking her private stories to The Sun. After sharing fake stories on her private Instagram account, Rooney famously concluded, 'It's... Rebekah Vardy's account.' The post went viral, earning Rooney the nickname 'Wagatha Christie'.

Vardy subsequently filed a libel claim, arguing she suffered 'extreme distress, hurt, anxiety and embarrassment'. In 2022, she lost the case and was ordered to pay £1.8 million to cover 90% of Rooney's legal costs. Last year, Vardy challenged the ruling, alleging Rooney had understated her costs, but a judge found no misconduct.

New Reality Show

The Vardys are now set to return to television with a new ITV reality show titled The Vardys, which will follow the couple as they move to Italy following the libel case. The series aims to offer an intimate look at their lives post-scandal.
