VAR Checked Three Incidents Before Disallowing West Ham Goal

Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones has revealed that three separate incidents were checked by VAR in the lead-up to West Ham's disallowed goal against Arsenal. Callum Wilson thought he had scored a late equaliser for the Hammers, but his strike was ruled out due to a foul by Pablo on goalkeeper David Raya.

VAR Review Process

Referee Chris Kavanagh overturned the goal after VAR lead Darren England recommended an on-field review. Jones disclosed that England also examined incidents involving Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard. Arsenal's goal-scorer Trossard was seen holding Pablo as he impeded Raya, while Rice was captured grabbing Crysencio Summerville and then Konstantinos Mavropanos during the corner, making no attempt to play the ball.

Had those contacts been deemed sufficient for a penalty before the foul on Raya, the goal would have been disallowed and a spot kick awarded. Manager Reactions

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta praised the officials, saying: 'A call from the refs that I think is very brave, but very consistent with what they've been talking about all season. When you look at the action in that way, I think it is an obvious error.'

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo criticised the lack of consistency, stating: 'Due to the recent seasons, it has been happening. Even the referees don't know what is a foul and what is not a foul. It creates doubt. The players are confused and frustrated, and they don't understand it.'

Arsenal held on for the remaining minutes, moving within touching distance of their first Premier League title in over 20 years.
