President Donald Trump engaged in a manic early morning posting spree on Truth Social Wednesday, sharing a dozen graphics in just three minutes to boast about the success of his endorsed candidates in Tuesday's primary elections. Between 6:23 a.m. and 6:25 a.m., the president's account posted 13 identical-styled graphics recognizing candidates in Georgia, Oregon, Idaho, Kentucky, and Alabama who either won outright or advanced to run-offs. Each graphic featured the candidate's name and photo alongside Trump's portrait, with a red banner reading "Endorsed by President Trump."
Trump's Influence on Display
The rapid-fire posts are a familiar pattern around election season, when Trump dispenses endorsements and celebrates victories. While the White House insists posts on Truth Social are "directly from President Trump," reports suggest aides assist with the account. The White House has not disclosed internal procedures but noted that "no other social media tool has been more effective than Truth." Wednesday morning's barrage followed a similar evening of graphics touting Trump-backed candidates.
Tuesday's primaries demonstrated Trump's enduring political clout, as voters favored his endorsed candidates over other Republicans, including incumbents. The most striking example occurred in Kentucky, where Trump-backed Ed Gallrein defeated incumbent Representative Thomas Massie, a frequent Trump critic. This race became the most expensive House primary in history, with over $33 million spent on TV ads, according to NPR and AdImpact. Gallrein's victory signals that Trump's influence remains potent despite his declining approval ratings.
Implications for Midterms
While Tuesday's results are only primaries, they do not guarantee Republican success in November's midterm elections. In last November's local elections, Democrats outperformed Republicans, winning governorships in New Jersey and Virginia. Additionally, progressive Democrat Zohran Mamdani defeated former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, whom Trump had endorsed. These outcomes have intensified Republican efforts to secure victories and maintain control of the House for the remainder of Trump's presidency.
