Donald Trump Jr has sparked widespread criticism after posting a meme on Instagram depicting his father, President Donald Trump, throwing a green sex toy onto a WNBA court. The photoshopped image, shared with the caption “Posted without further comment,” combines Trump’s recent appearance on the White House roof with a scene of six female basketball players.
The meme references an incident last week when a sex toy was thrown onto the court during a WNBA game between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream. The league condemned the act as dangerous and misogynistic, threatening stadium bans and potential arrest for those involved. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham also pleaded with fans to stop such behaviour after a near-miss earlier this week.
While Don Jr’s post had garnered nearly 107,000 likes, it drew sharp rebukes online. One top comment read: “So funny! Now RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES.” Former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan noted the irony of those who “bash trans people because they care about ‘women’s sports’” sharing the meme. Another user questioned: “I wonder if he’d be ok with guys throwing dildos at his daughter while she was playing basketball.”
However, Brian Glenn, White House reporter for Real America’s Voice and boyfriend of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, praised the post as the “Greatest IG account. Ever.”
Don Jr has a history of posting controversial memes targeting political opponents and cultural issues. Recent examples include an AI image of his father in tight jeans mocking the Sydney Sweeney American Eagle advert, and a fake image of Nancy Pelosi in lingerie. He also faced backlash for joking about the attack on Paul Pelosi with a hammer and underwear post in 2022, which he later removed.
