US President Donald Trump has lashed out at his own supporters, branding them gullible 'weaklings' for questioning the transparency of a government inquiry into the late socialite and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump accused his voters of falling for a 'radical left' hoax designed to discredit him.
Trump wrote: 'Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this “bullshit,” hook, line, and sinker. Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work.' He later told Real America's Voice that the FBI should investigate the 'Jeffrey Epstein hoax' as part of a criminal conspiracy against him.
The backlash stems from suspicions among Trump's Make America Great Again (Maga) base that the administration is hiding details of Epstein's crimes to protect the rich elite, including Trump himself. Supporters have pressed for the release of the so-called 'Epstein Files', with some alleging Epstein was murdered to cover up the involvement of powerful figures in his sex crimes.
Trump's tirade marks a shift from earlier attempts to placate his backers. On Tuesday, he described the inquiry as 'boring' but backed the release of 'credible' files. However, his latest comments have drawn criticism from within his own ranks. Multiple Truth Social users urged him to release more information, with one post asking: 'Why are you protecting pedophiles?'
Conservative allies, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump, have called for greater transparency. The Justice Department and FBI confirmed last week that Epstein died by suicide in 2019 and that no client list would be made public.
