Donald Trump has been widely criticized for what many consider 'appalling' behavior toward Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the G7 Summit in France. Footage from the summit shows Trump entering a room and seemingly bypassing Zelensky to greet other world leaders, sparking outrage online.
Footage Sparks Backlash
The clip, shared by Euan MacDonald on social media, shows Trump appearing to ignore Zelensky as he greets other leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. MacDonald captioned the post: 'Zelensky looking slightly nonplussed as Trump seems to ignore him while going on to greet other G7 leaders at today's summit in France.' The video has since garnered hundreds of reactions.
Critics were quick to condemn Trump's actions. One user wrote: 'Trump is a rude 80-year-old. He is a total embarrassment for the US.' Another added: 'He always acts like he's the host in the room - such arrogance.' A third commented: 'He didn't seem to ignore him. He actively ignored him.'
Context and Defense
However, some observers pointed out that the footage may not tell the full story. Photos from the summit show Trump and Zelensky in conversation, and others suggested they may have greeted each other before entering the room. One user noted: 'They came in after each other, so they most likely already met before entering.' Another added: 'Zelensky followed him into the room. He could have greeted him prior to coming in.'
This incident follows another gaffe earlier in the week, when Trump was accused of making a 'creepy move' during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife. Despite the backlash, Trump's supporters argue that the criticism is overblown and that the context of the footage is missing.
