President Donald Trump has launched a lengthy attack on two U.S. Supreme Court justices he appointed, accusing them of failing to remain loyal to him and his agenda. In a series of posts on Truth Social late Sunday, Trump singled out Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett for their rulings against his policies, particularly on tariffs and birthright citizenship.
Trump's Grievances
Trump expressed frustration that the justices, both conservative appointees, had not consistently ruled in his favor. He wrote, “I ‘Love’ Justice Neil Gorsuch! He’s a really smart and good man, but he voted against me, and our Country, on Tariffs, a devastating move. How do I reconcile this? So bad, and hurtful to our Country. I have, likewise, always liked and respected Amy Coney Barrett, but the same thing with her.”
The president claimed their decision on tariffs cost the United States $159 billion, which he said the country must repay to “enemies” and others that have been “ripping us off for years.” He suggested the justices could have added a simple sentence to their ruling to avoid repayment obligations.
Accusations of Disloyalty
Trump contrasted the behavior of Republican-appointed justices with Democrats, asserting that “Democrat Justices always remain true to the people that honored them.” He argued that Republican justices often oppose him to demonstrate their independence. He said, “I don’t want loyalty, but I do want and expect it for our Country.”
The president also warned about the upcoming ruling on birthright citizenship, calling it a “DISASTER” if decided against him. He said the country cannot handle many such decisions before it “breaks down.”
Previous Criticism
This is not the first time Trump has criticized the justices. In February, after the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 against his reciprocal tariffs program, he called the decision “deeply disappointing” and said he was “ashamed of certain members of the court.” He labeled them “fools and lapdogs for the RINOS and the radical left Democrats.”
Trump’s social media activity also included attacks on Iran’s stance on peace talks, gloating over primary defeats of Republicans in Indiana, and criticizing Fox News for interviewing Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna, whom he called a “wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
