Hollywood stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen made a surprise appearance at Soccer Aid on Sunday night, delighting fans at the charity football match raising funds for UNICEF. The duo, famous for voicing Woody and Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story, were interviewed by presenter GK Barry before kick-off.
When asked what they were doing at the event, Hanks explained they would drop the ball for the kick-off and help raise money. Allen then turned the air blue with an expletive-laden joke, saying: "We don't know, I'm just b***ing about penalty shots." The American actors, unfamiliar with European football, continued their banter as Hanks joked that Allen could not use his hands.
The pair later brought out the ball, with Hanks revealing that £4,646,971 had already been raised. Allen delighted fans by delivering Buzz Lightyear's catchphrase: "To infinity and beyond!" Earlier, singer Olly Murs confirmed he had raised over £1.3 million through a 400km challenge from Old Trafford to London Stadium.
Soccer Aid is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a showdown at the London Stadium, featuring football legends and celebrities. Wayne Rooney led England, while Edwin van der Sar played for World XI. Other participants included Tom Hiddleston, Danny Dyer, and Robbie Williams as England manager.
