US President Donald Trump has confirmed he will not attend his eldest son Donald Trump Jr's wedding, citing his responsibilities in Washington, D.C. In a post on Truth Social, Trump offered his congratulations but said that 'circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America' prevent him from attending.
The wedding is reportedly set to take place in the Bahamas over the Memorial Day weekend. Trump initially hinted on Thursday that he might skip the event, telling reporters in the Oval Office that the timing was 'not good' due to issues such as the conflict in Iran. However, he has recently attended a UFC event in Miami and played golf, drawing criticism for his absence from his son's wedding.
Donald Trump Jr, 48, is engaged to Bettina Anderson, a 39-year-old socialite and model from a prominent Palm Beach banking family. The couple made their first public appearance together at Trump's inauguration last year. This will be Trump Jr's second marriage; his first was to Vanessa Haydon in 2005, officiated by Trump's sister, Judge Maryanne Trump Barry.
Trump acknowledged the dilemma of attending or not, saying, 'If I do attend, I get killed. If I don't attend, I get killed.' He ultimately decided it was better to be criticised by family than by the media, but his approval ratings have recently hit an all-time low amid economic concerns and the ongoing war in Iran.
