A 15-year-old boy, a 48-year-old man, and a 39-year-old woman have been arrested by police investigating an attempted car bomb attack on Lurgan police station. The incident, which took place on March 30, involved a food delivery driver being hijacked in Kilwilkie and forced to drive a crude but viable device to the station. The dissident republican group the New IRA claimed responsibility.
Arrests and Charges
The man and the boy were arrested under the Terrorism Act and taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning. The woman was subsequently arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, obstructing police, and assisting an offender. All three were detained in the Lurgan area, where searches continue.
Police Statement
A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson condemned the attack, stating: "This cowardly and widely condemned attack put innocent lives at risk. We will continue in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice." Justice Minister Naomi Long noted the device would have caused devastation had it detonated.
Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference 1828 of March 30.
