A teenager accused of a bomb hoax at a Peter Kay show had to be removed from court after he began stripping off during a video-link hearing.
Omar Majed, 19, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court via video-link from HMP Brinsford on a charge of communicating false information to police. The hearing was cut short when prison officers escorted him out after he started removing his prison tracksuit bottoms.
The incident occurred at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on May 1, during Kay's Better Late Than Never tour. The comedian, 52, was rushed off stage and the show was cancelled after an evacuation. West Midlands Police later confirmed that 'nothing suspicious was found' during searches of the venue.
Judge Andrew Smith KC was addressing Majed about his next appearance when the disruption occurred. The judge noted for the record that prison staff had 'understandably' removed the defendant. Majed was remanded in custody and is due to appear again on July 27.
