Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have set their wedding date for 3 July, but not everyone is thrilled about the guest list. According to a report, one anonymous invitee complained about not being allowed a plus-one, as Swift has reportedly banned single guests from bringing a friend.
The disgruntled invitee told the Mail: 'What am I supposed to do? Go alone? That is so awkward. I don't think I am going to attend because I don't want to go by myself and I am not sure I will know too many people there. I mean, sorry, I am not friends with Gigi and Bella Hadid!'
Wedding etiquette experts, however, suggest Swift's decision may be defensible. Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette, updated by Lizzie Post, advises that spouses, fiancés, and live-in partners should be invited. For singles, British Vogue recommends clear criteria: if one single guest is allowed a plus-one, all should be.
By barring plus-ones for singles, Swift is applying a consistent rule. As one commentator noted, 'If Tay-Tay's doing it at hers, I'm doing it at mine.' The singer's approach may serve as a lesson in managing wedding guest lists without favouritism.
