Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice is facing a fresh crisis after three of his former celebrity partners reportedly met to discuss their difficult experiences with him. According to sources, Amanda Abbington, Ranvir Singh, and Laura Whitmore held an 'emotional summit' where they 'compared notes' about their time working with the Italian dancer on the BBC show.
Amanda Abbington quit Strictly in October 2023 citing 'personal reasons', amid claims of a feud with Giovanni. Reports later emerged that she had requested footage of their rehearsals after the experience left her with PTSD. Ranvir Singh reportedly complained to producers about Giovanni during their stint in 2020, while Laura Whitmore said she 'cried every day' and felt 'uncomfortable' while dancing with him in 2016.
An insider told The Sun that 'tears were shed' during the meeting, and the trio discussed the possibility of making a formal complaint to the BBC about Giovanni's behaviour. The source added: 'There is every possibility all three could take it further and formally complain to the BBC, but for now they're comforting each other.' They also expressed shock that 'the BBC appears to be doing nothing'.
However, a source close to Giovanni dismissed the allegations, saying: 'Gio finds some of these allegations deeply unfair and offensive. He believes he's done nothing wrong, and simply wants to get the best out of his partners.' A BBC spokesperson declined to comment, but earlier this year the corporation said it would not investigate Giovanni's behaviour with Amanda, stating there is 'constant dialogue' with contestants to address concerns.
The news comes hours after Giovanni broke his silence on Amanda's exit, telling The Mirror's Invite Only podcast: 'It's a shame because, in my opinion, [Amanda] could have gone all the way.' He has previously described himself as a 'perfectionist' but insisted his teaching style comes from a 'perspective of caring'.
