One of America's largest low-budget carriers, Spirit Airlines, has shut down with immediate effect, leaving passengers stranded at airports without their belongings. The airline announced that all flights were cancelled and advised customers not to go to the airport.
In the aftermath of the sudden closure, travellers have been left unable to secure connecting flights and are stuck at various airports across the country. Some passengers remain at terminals waiting for news about their missing luggage, with no customer service available to assist them.
Grace Florez was travelling from North Carolina to Colombia but found herself stuck in Fort Lauderdale after her connection was cancelled. Nearly two days later, she still does not know the whereabouts of her bags. 'It's difficult, and it's frustrating,' she told NBC6. 'I'm clueless. I don't know what to do. Other than waiting.'
Another passenger explained that they could not fly without their bags and felt helpless. The collapse of the airline has left many in limbo, with no clear path to retrieve their belongings or complete their journeys.
