A chilling 911 call made by the wife of former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore has been released, revealing her terror on the day he was fired and later arrested.
A Day of Crisis: Firing, Threats, and Arrest
On December 10th, a series of dramatic events unfolded for Sherrone Moore, the 39-year-old married father-of-three. First, he was dismissed from his prestigious role as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines following an investigation into an alleged 'inappropriate relationship' with a staff member. Mere hours later, he was arrested on serious charges after a disturbing alleged incident.
Moore was charged with breaking and entering, home invasion, and stalking. Police allege he entered the Ann Arbor apartment of his executive assistant, Paige Shiver, armed with a knife. He is accused of confronting a woman there, engaging in a heated argument, and threatening to kill himself. After allegedly fleeing, he was apprehended in a church parking lot in a neighbouring town.
He spent two nights in jail before being granted a $25,000 bond and released. If convicted on all counts, Moore—who has pleaded not guilty—could face a prison sentence of up to six years.
The Haunting 911 Plea from His Wife
Now, one month after the arrest, audio obtained by TMZ reveals the desperate emergency call placed by Moore's wife, Kelli Moore, that same fateful day. In the call, a clearly terrified Kelli tells the dispatcher, 'I'm worried my husband is going to hurt himself.'
When asked why she believed that, she replied, 'Because he said that to me. He said he is trying to kill himself.' She explained that her husband had just called to say he had been fired and was 'in crisis,' and that she did not know his location, only that he said he was on a highway.
Kelli identified him as the Michigan Wolverines coach and repeatedly expressed her fear and her desire for him to come home safely. 'I just need to make sure he's safe. He's called a couple times, and I'm terrified he's gonna do something to himself,' she said on the call.
Unfolding Scandal and Legal Aftermath
The scandal began when an unnamed staffer, reported to be the victim of the alleged break-in, claimed to have had an 'intimate relationship' with Moore for approximately two years. The coach himself reportedly admitted this to detectives. The staffer allegedly ended the relationship two days before the arrest and filed a formal report with the university.
According to documents, Moore then bombarded her with 'dozens of text messages and calls'. In a further twist, The Athletic reported that five other women have since come forward with claims of awkward exchanges with Moore in the days before his firing, though they did not accuse him of illegal conduct.
As conditions of his release, Moore is required to wear a GPS tether, undergo mental health treatment, and is prohibited from contacting the staffer involved, who remains employed by the university. His lawyer, Ellen Michaels, stated, 'Sherrone Moore denies any criminal wrongdoing... This matter will be decided in court based on evidence and due process, not speculation.'
Moore has not spoken publicly since his arrest. He was later photographed with his wife, Kelli, who is believed to be standing by him as he awaits his next court date.
