The incident occurred at the Studio 809 salon in San Luis Obispo, where owner Karen Marriott made the disturbing find in late August. What initially appeared to be normal haircare products revealed their grotesque secret when staff attempted to use them during client appointments.

"It was absolutely disgusting," Marriott told investigators. "We went to use the shampoo on clients and discovered it wasn't coming out properly. When we looked closer, we realised the bottles had been filled with hair."
