The Secret Service has placed an agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance's security detail on administrative leave after an undercover video appeared to show him sharing sensitive information. The footage, released by the O'Keefe Media Group, captures the agent discussing security arrangements and travel plans with a woman he believed was on a date, but who was actually an undercover journalist.
In the video, recorded in a busy restaurant, the agent provides detailed responses to questions about how agents are positioned around Vance during official engagements. He also reveals future travel plans and the location of the presidential convoy. The agent, described by O'Keefe as a 'holdover from the Biden administration', also expressed disapproval of the Trump administration's immigration policies, criticising ICE tactics.
The Secret Service has suspended the agent's security clearance and revoked access to facilities and systems. Deputy Director Matthew Quinn stated: 'The U.S. Secret Service has no tolerance for any behavior that could potentially compromise the safety, privacy or trust of our protectees.' He added that the incident is under investigation and that all personnel have been ordered to retake anti-espionage training.
Quinn apologised to the Vance family for the breach of trust, emphasising the agency's duty to uphold a '160-year-old tradition of discretion'. The agent's identity has not been confirmed due to privacy rules.
