Scott Erickson, the former Major League Baseball pitcher and ex-lover of convicted child killer Rebecca Grossman, made startling admissions in court on Monday, revealing that he spent the previous week golfing in Mexico with his new girlfriend despite facing potential liability for 'tens and tens of millions of dollars' in a wrongful death lawsuit. He also acknowledged consuming alcohol daily, including a martini after an earlier court session, which he documented on social media.
Testimony in Civil Trial
Erickson, 58, appeared tanned and dressed in a dark suit with an open-necked white shirt at the Van Nuys courthouse. He spoke publicly for the first time in nearly six years about the horrific crash that killed two young brothers, Mark, 11, and Jacob, 8. The boys were fatally struck by Grossman's speeding white Mercedes in Westlake Village, Los Angeles, in September 2020, while she and Erickson were allegedly racing. Grossman, 64, is serving 15 years to life in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder and vehicular manslaughter.
Under intense questioning from Brian Panish, the lead attorney for the boys' parents, Karim and Nancy Iskander, Erickson admitted he spent the prior week in Baja California, staying at the golf course home of Stacey Kendall Stimson, a Canadian widow. He also confessed to seeing another woman while still dating Grossman in the year after the crash.
Drinking Habits and Social Media
Panish, who treated Erickson as a hostile witness, grilled him about his alcohol consumption. When asked, 'Do you drink alcohol every day?' Erickson replied, 'Yes.' He further admitted that after a previous court appearance during jury selection, he went to a bar for a martini and posted a photo of himself in a tuxedo holding the drink on Instagram.
Erickson denied racing Grossman before the accident, stating, 'I was never racing.' He also rejected claims of willful disregard for safety, though he acknowledged being charged with reckless driving, adding, 'Those charges were dropped.' He admitted to leaving the scene but claimed he returned on foot, failing to identify himself to police.
Lying to Police and Perjury
Erickson confessed to lying to police about the vehicle he was driving. He owned two black Mercedes SUVs at the time; the one he presented for inspection was not the car involved in the crash. Panish pressed, 'You lied to police many times in this case, right?' Erickson responded, 'No. Just about the car.'
Text messages between Erickson and Grossman, shown in court, revealed mutual professions of love. However, Erickson admitted to seeing another woman, Vera Lynn, in 2021, though he described her as 'a friend.'
New Relationship and Background
Erickson's new girlfriend, Stacey Kendall Stimson, is a Canadian mother of one from Calgary, Alberta. Her husband, agricultural equipment businessman Derek Stimson, died in 2023, after which she relocated to Mexico. Erickson, who played for six MLB teams over 16 seasons and won the World Series with the Minnesota Twins in 1991, vehemently denies any blame for the boys' deaths, insisting Grossman was solely responsible.
The Iskander family is seeking millions in damages from both Grossman and Erickson in the ongoing civil trial.
