Sara Cox Calls Sleeping Separately from Husband 'Depressing' Ahead of Radio 2 Breakfast Show Gig

Sara Cox, who has been announced as the new host of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, has opened up about a marital issue she describes as 'depressing'. The 51-year-old broadcaster admitted that she and her husband Ben Cyzer often sleep in separate rooms due to his snoring.

Cox, who replaced Scott Mills on the flagship programme, discussed the situation on her Teen Commandments podcast. She explained that her husband's nocturnal noises regularly drive her to another bedroom. 'I nudge him, he's really patient, he's great about it, and then we just keep sleeping in separate rooms, which is a bit depressing,' she said.

The Radio 2 host, who married advertising boss Ben in 2013, also revealed that her sensitivity to sound increases with age. 'Now I'm 50 I go, "F**k, it's three, I'm not going to sleep, I'm never going to get back to sleep again",' she added, contrasting her current mindset with her more relaxed twenties.

Despite this domestic challenge, Cox expressed overwhelming joy at securing the Breakfast Show role. 'There are not enough adjectives to really sum up how I’m feeling about being trusted with such an iconic show but let’s start with ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed,' she said.

Cox, who currently hosts the weekday Teatime show, will begin her new slot in the summer. She described the opportunity as a 'full circle' moment, having long dreamed of hosting the programme since joining Radio 2. She promised listeners 'excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests'.
