Sara Cox Celebrates Eurovision Role with Friends

BBC Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox, 51, has taken to Instagram to thank her close friends for their unwavering support as she steps into a new role covering the Eurovision Song Contest for the broadcaster. The presenter, who replaces former colleague Scott Mills following his dismissal over historical sexual offence allegations, shared a photograph of herself enjoying a lunch outing with two companions, captioning it: 'Pre-breakfast show announcement booze-free bubbles with the greatest 2 wingwomen I could wish for. Always there to cheer me on or pick me up & dust me down. Thank you for decades of friendship, love, support & lols.'

New Eurovision Duties

Cox will take over commentary duties for the semi-finals and the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, which is scheduled to take place in Vienna, Austria, on May 16, with semi-finals on May 12 and 14. She previously commentated on the semi-finals during a radio show alongside Rylan Clark last year. The BBC confirmed that Scott Mills had been removed from all future work, including Eurovision coverage, after allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy between 1997 and 2000 emerged. The case was dropped in 2019 due to a lack of evidence, but the corporation decided to sever ties with the presenter of 28 years.

Support from Colleagues

Mills had previously shown support for Cox, particularly during her Children In Need challenge in November 2024, when he called her a 'hero.' Cox herself completed the Great Northern Marathon Challenge, covering 135 miles across four counties and raising over £11.5 million for the charity. At the finish line, an emotional Cox thanked musicians Chase and Status and Stormzy, and apologised to her children for her singing during the event.

Additionally, reports have suggested that Cox is being considered as a potential replacement for Claudia Winkleman or Tess Daly on Strictly Come Dancing, with a source describing her as a 'good fit' for the show due to her trusted reputation and off-the-cuff style.
