Rylan Clark threw in the towel live on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday after a series of on-air blunders, culminating in him handing over his show to co-stars. The presenter had earlier complained about being overlooked for awards.
During his regular 'Couch Potatoes' quiz, Rylan mistakenly introduced the first contestant as Matt when he was actually speaking to Mark, a previous champion. The confusion continued as he mixed up the names again, prompting Mark to correct him: 'It's Mark! I'm Mark, the champion from a few weeks ago!'
An exasperated Rylan joked, 'Oh no, this is ridiculous! Right, hang on a minute, is there a ghost or something? What is going on? Everyone stop! Stop, collaborate and listen, stop!' He later explained to listeners that he had been given incorrect information about which contestant to speak to first.
After listener Matt expressed surprise that Rylan's show hadn't received an award, Rylan took a swipe at The ARIAS, saying, 'Always snubbed at The ARIAS even though I host the thing. It kills me, I'm the host of it and I can't even get a nomination!'
Further interruptions from producer Simon led Rylan to declare, 'I'm done!' He handed the quiz over to producer Lotte Uttley and traffic reporter Sally Boazman, saying, 'You're going to ask the questions, I'm going to be a lifeline.' Sally joked that Rylan was 'having a tantrum', to which he replied, 'I've had enough!'
Despite the chaos, Rylan later praised Lotte for stepping in, especially as she had admitted to feeling nervous about reading aloud live due to dyslexia.
