Rylan Clark has taken the news of missing out on the Strictly Come Dancing hosting job in his stride, posting a hilarious reaction video that has fans in stitches. The 37-year-old broadcaster was among those reportedly in contention to present the BBC dance show, but the roles ultimately went to Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe, and former professional dancer Johannes Radebe.
Rylan's Light-Hearted Response
In an Instagram post, Clark wrote: 'Just wanted to say as it was reported I was in “the race” for strictly, the biggest congrats to my Emma and equal congrats to Johannes and Josh. You’re all going to have the best time. Made up for yous.' He added, 'This wasn’t my time sadly but am extremely grateful to even have been considered. I’m taking the news really well (see next slide) but genuinely looking forward to the new series with you three.'
The 'next slide' was a viral clip from his 2012 appearance on The X Factor, where he is seen hysterically crying after judge Nicole Scherzinger told him he had made it through to the live shows. Clark finished fifth on that series, which was won by James Arthur. In a comment on the post, he clarified: 'Let’s keep this what it is. A genuine happiness for the three of them.'
Support from the Strictly Family
The announcement of the new presenting line-up has been met with widespread support from the Strictly community. Professional dancer Dianne Buswell commented on the Strictly Instagram page: 'This is so exciting, particularly excited for our fellow pro @johannesradebe babe you are a true star and this role is made for you, we love you.'
Head judge Shirley Ballas welcomed the new hosts, saying: 'Welcome to the family @emmawillisofficial @josh_widdicombe… and to our dear @johannesradebe I am beyond proud of you. Superstar line up.' Former presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who announced their departure in October 2025, also praised their successors. Daly described them as 'the ultimate trio', while Winkleman called them 'magnificent'.
