Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalised and is in a “critical but stable condition”, his spokesperson announced on Sunday evening. Ted Goodman did not disclose the cause of Giuliani’s hospitalisation or how long he had been there.
In a social media post, Goodman described Giuliani as “a fighter” who is “fighting with that same level of strength as we speak”. He asked the public to join in prayer for the 81-year-old, often referred to as “America’s Mayor”.
Giuliani hosted his online show, “America’s Mayor Live”, from Florida on Friday night, remarking that his voice was “a little under the weather”. The reason for his current hospitalisation remains unclear.
Giuliani gained international acclaim for his response to the 9/11 attacks in 2001. He later became a key attorney for Donald Trump, working to overturn the 2020 election results. Those efforts led to criminal charges in two US states and a defamation lawsuit from election workers, which he denies.
Donald Trump praised Giuliani on Truth Social, calling him “a True Warrior” and “the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR”. Trump claimed without evidence that Giuliani was “right about everything” and criticised Democrats. Last year, Giuliani was hospitalised after a car crash in New Hampshire.
