Megan Rapinoe Slams Fifa Over World Cup Final Scheduling and Prize Money

Megan Rapinoe has launched a scathing attack on Fifa, accusing the governing body of disrespecting the women's game by scheduling the men's Copa América and Gold Cup finals on the same day as the Women's World Cup final. The US co-captain described the scheduling as 'unbelievable' and questioned whether Fifa truly values women's football.

Rapinoe criticised the disparity in prize money, noting that the women's World Cup prize pot is $30m compared to $400m for the men's tournament. While Fifa president Gianni Infantino announced a doubling of the women's prize money to $60m, Rapinoe argued it is not enough, calling for further increases to close the gap.

The forward, who missed the semi-final against England due to injury but expects to be fit for the final, said she feels 'like a kid in a candy store' ahead of Sunday's match against the Netherlands. She defended the team's confidence, describing it as 'well-placed' and tinged with playfulness.

Rapinoe has been a vocal advocate for equality and social justice throughout her career, and her public spat with Donald Trump over her refusal to visit the White House has made headlines. She continues to use her platform to challenge football's authorities, calling for greater investment and attention to the women's game.
