Queen's Ex-Press Secretary Says Meghan Markle Left Her Dumbfounded
Queen's Ex-Aide Dumbfounded by Meghan Markle

A former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth II has shared her astonishment at Meghan Markle's claims during a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. Ailsa Anderson, who served the late monarch for nearly 13 years, expressed disbelief at the allegations of racism within the royal family.

Documentary Revelations

Anderson made her comments on the Channel 5 documentary Harry & Meghan: Has America Had Enough?, scheduled to air this weekend. The program examines the shifting public perception of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex since their move to the United States.

During the documentary, Anderson reacted to Meghan's disclosure about her struggles during pregnancy with Archie. Meghan had spoken of a "very clear and real and frightening constant thought" of not wanting to be alive. She also recounted discussions about Archie not receiving a title or security, and concerns about "how dark his skin might be when he is born."

Anderson's Response

Anderson stated: "This was not the monarch I recognised. I worked for the late Queen for almost 13 years. I have never ever heard any utterings, in private or in public, of anything of a racial nature, ever. Absolutely ever. So I was dumbfounded… I really was."

Following the Oprah interview, Queen Elizabeth II issued a statement noting that "some recollections may vary." Meghan later claimed in a Netflix documentary that she was given "strict orders" about what to wear and was prohibited from wearing the same color as the Queen.

Anderson commented on this, saying: "When those queries and doubts start creeping in, the public start doubting everything else you are talking about. It’s a gradual erosion of her credibility."

Hope for Reconciliation

Despite her criticisms, Anderson believes Harry and Meghan can restore their reputations in America. She said: "I don’t think it’s too late for them. The world is a very forgiving place. They haven’t murdered anyone. If they can’t find a place in America, where can they find a place?"

Anderson also recalled positive experiences with Prince Harry, describing him as "very warm and very engaging and kind." She previously advised him to "stop being the victim" in another documentary.

Harry & Meghan: Has America Had Enough? airs on Channel 5 on Saturday, June 13 at 8:35 PM.
