Marvel's The Punisher returned with Jon Bernthal in a new Disney+ special, but the comeback has been overshadowed by a noticeable CGI error. In 'The Punisher: One Last Kill', a fight scene shows Frank Castle thrown off a building, landing on a metal air vent. The moment features a computer-generated version of Bernthal that fans have criticised as poor quality.
Social media users quickly spotted the unfinished visual effects shot. One viewer wrote: 'They really left an unfinished VFX shot in #Punisher LOL.' Another said: 'I can’t believe this is a real scene from The Punisher: One Last Kill.' A third described it as 'one of the worst CGI animations' seen in years, comparing it to a video game character.
The special, released on 12 May, sees Frank Castle return to his vigilante ways after being targeted by crime lord Ma Gnucci, played by Judith Light. It runs for 60 minutes, making it Marvel Studios' longest special to date, surpassing 'Werewolf by Night' (53 minutes) and the 'Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special' (42 minutes).
The original Punisher series aired on Netflix from 2017 to 2019 before being cancelled. Disney regained the rights and Bernthal reprised the role in 'Daredevil: Born Again' last year. He is also set to appear as the Punisher in the upcoming 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' film.
