Fans of Marvel's The Punisher have criticised a CGI blunder in the new Disney+ special, The Punisher: One Last Kill, with some calling it the worst computer-generated imagery they have ever seen.
The special, which sees Jon Bernthal reprise his role as Frank Castle, features a fight scene where the character is thrown off a building and lands on a metal air vent. During the sequence, a computer-generated version of Bernthal is visible before the real actor gets up, leading to widespread mockery on social media.
One viewer wrote: “They really left an unfinished VFX shot in #Punisher LOL,” while another said: “I can’t believe this is a real scene.” A third described it as “one of the worst CGI animations” in years, comparing it to a video game character.
The special, which runs for 60 minutes, is the longest Marvel Studios special to date. It sees Frank Castle return to his vigilante ways after being targeted by crime lord Ma Gnucci, played by Judith Light.
Bernthal first played The Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil before starring in his own series from 2017 to 2019. He recently appeared in Daredevil: Born Again and is set to reprise the role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
