The fallout from Prince Harry versus the media continues, and the person who appears most damaged by it is Baroness Lawrence. Not only will she be liable for some of the £50 million fees, but it has now emerged that prior to the trial her lawyers said she would withdraw from the case if she were paid £650,000. Not a good look. Incidentally, since it seems that Harry was responsible for getting her involved in the first place, is it too much to hope he’ll help with her costs?

“People always ask me how long it takes to do my hair. I don’t know, I’m never there,” – Dolly Parton
Let Them Eat Cake
According to the boss of Flexjet, a new generation of the super-rich in their 20s and 30s are flying by private jet. Blimey. I thought this was the generation overwhelmed by student loans and zero prospects of getting in the housing market, while we evil Boomers held them back, not sipping champagne high above the clouds while checking the balance in their cryptocurrency accounts. Let them eat cake!
A Force for Stability
Many congrats to Eva Herzigova, who has tied the knot to her long term partner at the age of 53. Marriage may not be for everyone, but it is a contract between the couple and society as well as each other and as such a force for stability. Mind you, my great-grandfather used to say, “Fifty’s quite young enough to get married.” I waited even longer than that!
So What?
So Ruth Ellis, the last woman to receive the death penalty in the UK, has been granted a posthumous pardon. All very well, but what actual difference is it going to make? It looks like a marvellous opportunity for grandstanding by David Lammy and not a great deal else. After all, it’s hardly going to bring her back to life.
Whisper It...
Totes hilaire to see Victoria Beckham looking grim faced and unmoved in a Miami stadium during the World Cup quarter-finals. Of course I always hope England win but some of us, whisper it, are pretty unmoved both by football and tennis. Or any other sport. Nor do I see why women have to be interested in football. Give it back to the boys. There’s shopping to be done…
Somebody Help Her
There has been a great deal about Katie Price recently, with a four-part documentary about her life. But I still don’t understand why she did the full Michael Jackson and went from being an attractive 20-something to someone who has totally destroyed her looks. Whatever the reason, she deserves pity and an intervention as she clearly loathes herself. Is there no one at all who can help?
What's He Playing At?
What on earth is happening to Peter Tatchell? A few weeks ago he turned up at an anti-Semitism rally wearing a very provocative “Free Palestine” badge and now he has greeted the ghastly murder of Ann Widdecombe by posting a stream of abuse followed by “Bigot” on X. He later apologised, as well he might, but what sort of person greets the horrible death of someone they disagree with by gloating? Tatchell was on the verge of approaching National Treasure status; not any more he ain’t.
Many others have already written in this paper about what a fine woman Ann was. I also knew Ann; I used to edit her column in the Daily Express and we had lunch a couple of times. Whatever you thought of her views, she was a woman of total integrity and very brave with it. RIP Ann. You did not deserve such a terrible end.
