ITV's gripping crime thriller Prey has clawed its way to the top of the Netflix charts, sparking renewed interest in the series that originally aired over a decade ago. The first season, starring John Simm, follows a desperate father framed for murder.
What Is Prey About?
The series centers on DC Marcus Farrow (John Simm), a police officer who is arrested and charged with the murder of his wife and youngest son. However, during a police van transport, a crash allows Farrow to escape, determined to find the real killer and clear his name. Detective Sergeant Susan Reinhardt (Rosie Cavaliero) is tasked with tracking him down.
Season 1 Ending Explained
As Farrow investigates on his own, he uncovers a shocking truth: the murders were orchestrated by his own boss, DCI Andrea MacKenzie (Anastasia Hille). Years earlier, MacKenzie was brutally assaulted while working undercover by Turkish gangster Omer Hassan. Seeking revenge, she killed Hassan and attempted to cover up her involvement.
Farrow possessed discs containing evidence of her crime. To retrieve them, MacKenzie sent a burglar to his home, but the intruder was disturbed by Farrow's wife and son, resulting in their tragic deaths. MacKenzie then framed Farrow to divert suspicion. She also murdered her colleague DI Sean Devlin (Craig Parkinson) when he got too close to the truth.
In a tense climax, Reinhardt records MacKenzie's confession, exonerating Farrow. MacKenzie tries to shoot herself, but Farrow knocks the gun away, ensuring she faces justice. Farrow is reunited with his eldest son, who survived the ordeal.
Both seasons of Prey are now available to stream on Netflix.
