Queensland Police Seize $186K Stashed in Mattress During Mackay Drug Raid

Queensland Police have uncovered $186,000 in cash hidden inside a mattress during a drug raid in West Mackay, leading to charges against six people. The search, conducted on Saturday, also yielded 24 grams of methamphetamine, six grams of cannabis, prescription medication, and drug utensils.

Bodycam footage released by police shows officers discovering the cash within the mattress. Additionally, a stolen white 2003 Subaru Liberty, reported stolen from Cairns earlier this month, and multiple mobile phones were seized.

A 38-year-old West Mackay man and a 25-year-old North Mackay man were remanded in custody and appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court on Tuesday. The older man faces charges including drug trafficking, possession of tainted property, and contravention of a domestic violence order. The younger man is charged with drug possession and breaching an arrest warrant.

Two other 38-year-old men, a 30-year-old woman, and a 49-year-old man were charged with various drug-related offences. They are expected to appear in court next month.
