Police are investigating an anti-Semitic image shared in connection with the campaign of actress Maureen Lipman, who has been a vocal critic of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. The image, which was circulated online, prompted a complaint to the authorities.
Lipman, known for her acting career and recent political commentary, has accused Corbyn of allowing anti-Semitism to flourish within the Labour Party. In a recent article, she described Corbyn as an 'honourable man' who has defended a mural depicting hook-nosed bankers and has been photographed holding a wreath near graves of terrorists who murdered Israeli athletes.
The investigation comes amid heightened tensions during the election campaign, with Labour facing repeated allegations of anti-Semitism under Corbyn's leadership. Lipman has urged 'decent people' to reject Corbyn, claiming that anti-Semitism is not seen as racism within the Labour Party but rather as anti-capitalism, anti-colonialism, and anti-Westernism.
A police spokesperson confirmed that a complaint had been received and that officers are assessing the matter. No further details have been released at this stage.
